Mario Rodriguez is an El Paso native who graduated from Franklin High School in 2005. He has been an active member of the El Paso Playhouse since 2004. In those three years, he has been part of over 17 productions. The first time he came to the Playhouse was four years ago for the 2003-2004 Season production of "Everybody Loves Opal". He loved the show so much that the next time he returned to the theatre was to act in the 2004 summer production of Anton Chekhov's "The Wedding Feast". Since then, he has been Assistant Director in "The Crucible" and "Angel Street". Done light and sound for numerous shows including "Grace and Glorie", "Love Letters" and "Mother's Day". He has also helped backstage in shows such as "The Fantasticks" and "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change". He was Artistic Coordinator in "The Importance of Being Earnest". Apart from "The Wedding Feast", you might have seen him onstage in "Little Women", the children's show "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" and most recently in "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940". Mario's directorial debut was in the summer 2006 season production of "Nuts". He is also a Producer whose shows include "Mother's Day" and "Black Coffee" and is an active member of the Playhouse Murder Mystery Troupe, DIE LAUGHING. Mario helped out the Playhouse by taking over the Theatre Administrator's position from September 06 to January 07 while Vanessa was out on Maternity Leave. You can see Mario helping out with Concessions or Box Office often. But most likely, you will see him every Opening Night, as he, along with Darci Georges (who prepares the delicious food) put together the banquet and serve you. He was voted onto the Board in December 2006. As the youngest member of the Board, he wishes to bring in younger people to the theatre and help open up doors for young actors, directors, and volunteers. He is an independent filmmaker who has written various plays and scripts and is currently studying Theatre and Film. Mario was recently voted in as our 2nd Vice-President.
"My goal for the Playhouse is to open the doors and encourage younger generations to get involved in the entire process.  From acting and directing, to working all aspect backstage, the youth of El Paso is our future and we need to embrace that."
